Our Mission
"The Church exists to evangelize." Pope Paul VI - Evangelii Nuntiandi
"Radio offers perhaps the closest equivalent today of what Jesus was able to do with large groups through His preaching. Radio is an intimate medium, which can reach people on the street, in their cars, or in their homes.... Radio may well be the most cost-effective means of reaching large numbers of people who may not want to or are ready to hear about the Catholic faith due to lack of exposure to Catholic publications-but will be willing to 'eavesdrop' on Catholic radio stations."... Pope John Paul II's address to the Catholic Media Association.
The Mission of St. Valentine Catholic Radio (Catholic Radio of the Texas High Plains Inc.) is to proclaim the Good News by communicating Christian truth as expressed in Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. To achieve this mission, we re-broadcasts 95% of EWTN Global Catholic radio programs designed to communicate the truth, foster divine charity, defend justice, spread joy, cultivate and nurture among all people the salvation which is available only through Jesus Christ the Lord. We also currently produce two local shows: "Catholics In Action" LIVE every Wednesday from Noon to 1 PM (CT) and "Alive In the Spirit" pre-recorded usually every Monday afternoon from 3:30 pm to 4 PM. (CT)
Inspired by Pope John Paul II's call to the laity for a new springtime of evangelization we are committed to answer this call by sharing the light of Christ with everyone through the medium of radio. As Catholics we are people of faith and hope. By using the airwaves to proclaim the truths of our faith we will endeavor to foster stronger families through the sharing of the gospel.
Saint Valentine Radio is not an affiliation of the Diocese of Amarillo. We are a listener-supported station through tax deductible donations as we are a non-profit organization.
It is the board members' wish and practice to collaborate with the Diocese of Amarillo. We offer free of charge to each parish the opportunity to announce over the air about their parish's or organization's event. We have broadcast live special events such as the Installation Mass of Bishop Zurek, the Ordination of priests, etc. We also have given the Bishop an open invitation to use the facilities of the radio station for recording messages or special announcements to the diocese whenever his schedule permits. We have been blessed to have Bishop Patrick Zurek, Bishop of Amarillo, use the facilities in the past and it is our hope that he feels free to use the radio station in the future.
